2025 Events

The final event of 2025 for our u3a was our Christmas get-together with a sing-song of popular Christmas carols and a little history of each thrown in. A magnificent raffle and mince pies for all rounded off our Christmas celebration. Take a look at our selection of sparkly jumpers.

We welcomed November and the chilly weather with a very successful trip to Canterbury where we enjoyed the various Christmas Markets. The mulled wine was very popular, and everyone enjoyed the crisp winter sunshine. Have a look at some photos of our trip.

Our Creative Writing group have submitted some original work for your enjoyment this month. We hope to make this a regular feature, so do enjoy and come back to see what has been submitted to our inbox recently.

Our 30th Anniversary Celebration was a great success with entertainment provided by Tony Tutton and a magnificent cake which you can admire in the photos shown by clicking the link. We also had boards detailing the history of some of our special clubs over the years.

Moving on from our first successful Cultural London trip to the Royal Academy summer exhibition, which saw 10 members meeting up at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, there have been various theatre outings. A group also went to the Guildhall art gallery to view works related to the August monthly talk, which was about London as portrayed through artworks of the time. Copyright issues mean no photos - sorry.

At our AGM recently we lost 2 old friends from the committee and two of the co-opted members were voted in to take their place. For a fuller description and to see some photographs please click on the link.

Our 30th Anniversary Picnic was much enjoyed by all who attended and it is hoped to make it an annual event. Click on the link to find out more and to see some photos of us enjoying the sunshine.

Our latest U3a club outing arranged by Joy and Val took us to the lovely Suffolk seaside town of Aldeburgh. Rain didn't prevent us from having a wonderful time, shopping, exploring and of course having fish and chips. Click on the link to see a selection of photographs of the day.

The gardening Club outing in May was to Theobalds Farmhouse Garden. There were 23 members who enjoyed a lovely afternoon which included a guided tour by the owner, followed by tea and cake. The garden was looking beautiful and gave us all some ideas for our own small plots.

Our gardening Club outing in April was to Capel Manor. A good day was had by all and we didn’t get wet, as the rain had stopped. Everything was very green with splashes of colour from beds of tulips around the gardens. We went on to Myddleton House for lunch and everyone enjoyed a day out in good company.

We had a very successful Line dancing session in March led by Mandy. Over thirty members attended and you can see some of the action in the youtube clips available here. As the individual pictures speed past too quickly to get a good look at the happy faces I've included a more leisurely look on the stills page

The Gardens of Easton Lodge are an idyllic haven near Great Dunmow in Essex, with a history dating back to Tudor times and redesigned by Harold Peto in 1902. Our U3a visited in February to view the snowdrops and the photos of our visit are featured here.

Our active members are crucial to running a successful U3a organisation so click on the names to find out something about the members featured - more will be added as the year progresses and if you want to be featured here contact Carol at one of the regular meetings and volunteer to be interviewed.
