Waltham Forest

Playreading

Status:Active, full but can join waiting list
When: On Tuesday mornings
4th Tuesday of the month
Venue: Winchester Road
Cost: Every member contributes a small regular amount to cover the cost of room hire.. Not refundable.

This group is led by Stephanie. Our purpose is to enjoy reading and discussing plays and to increase the fluency of our sight-reading. Also to have fun while we do that of course. Because we meet at Winchester Road there is a small non-refundable payment for room hire and refreshments from everyone in the group.

We source scripts from Waltham Forest library in Leytonstone which has a decent stock of older varied playwrights. We have also membership of the Essex County Council library where we can hire more modern plays than are available at Leytonstone. These licences are paid for centrally by Waltham Forest u3a.

Over the past few months we have read some 'lighter' plays by Agatha Christie, Noel Coward, Neil Simon and Michael Frayn. We are looking now to read some of the weightier plays to stretch ourselves. For example, Tennessee Williams and Harold Pinter.

It would be interesting to research playwrights and learn more about the development of theatre but this is up to the individual members of the group.

If you are interested in joining us then please contact Lesley to find out the current situation.
