The film on 20th January will be "Jimmy’s Hall (2014). Directed by Ken Loach and based on true events. In the 1920s political activist Jimmy Gralton built a dance hall in rural Ireland, which became very popular. But its free-spirited reputation brought it to the attention of the church and local politicians, who forced it to close and Jimmy to flee to the US. Returning ten years later at the height of the depression and shocked at the poverty and growing oppression he found in the village, he decided to reopen the abandoned hall and take on the authorities of the church and government.
This film will be shown at Paula's house in Chingford.
